Extraction of fractional vegetation cover in arid desert area based on Chinese GF-6 satellite

Abstract The red edge band is considered as one of the diagnosable characteristics green plants, but large-scale remote sensing retrieval fractional vegetation coverage (FVC) based on still rare. To explore application in estimation FVC, this study proposed a new index (normalized difference index, RENDVI) two bands Chinese GaoFen-6 satellite (GF-6). FVC estimated by using three indices (NDVI, RENDVI 1 , and 2 ) were evaluated field survey obtained Minqin Basin Gansu Province. results showed that there was good linear correlation between GF-6 WFV data investigated field, most reasonable model ( R = 0.97611 RMSE 0.07075). Meanwhile, impact confidence levels (1, 2, 5%) also analyzed study. from NDVI has highest accuracy at 2% confidence, while achieved best 5% confidence. It could be concluded it feasible reliable to estimate bands, Wide Field View (WFV) with high temporal spatial resolution provide source for FVC.
